Atlantic City’s biggest problem is also it’s biggest money maker. Trump & Caesars are the bullies on the Boardwalk that no one seemingly wants to confront. Even if that means Atlantic City will economically wander for more years to come.
The two behemoths known as Trump & Caesars are stepping up their use of town-killing deed restrictions. Yup. These two knuckleheads are literally shutting down portions of the Boardwalk, potentially for 10 years or more.
Trump wants a deed restriction on Trump Plaza for sweet tax write-offs and squashing potential competition. So far, city hall leadership has yet to grow a pair and confront this issue. Might they want to take back control of their town? Maybe they should take the lead of assemblyman Chris Brown?
Like a bully steals lunch money, Trump & Caesars not interested in Atlantic City’s rebound, just their own.
Until a bully gets punched back, they will terrorize everyone in site.
So far, Assemblyman Brown is the only civic leader that’s been screaming from the rooftops. For over a year, Brown has been the lone voice in the fight to kill local deed restrictions and put these harmful casino operators in their place.
The bad neighbors known as Caesars & Trump have used deed restrictions to squash the pent up demand for Boardwalk development. Trump Entertainment, just last week, said it wants to deed-restrict the Plaza. According to a report in the Press of Atlantic City, Assemblyman Brown said that was the latest example of an insidious trend “of greedy corporate executives usurping the state’s authority for planning and zoning for their own corporate benefit”.
Also in the Press of Atlantic City: Three former Boardwalk casinos have been sold by Caesars with deed restrictions to prevent them from being reopened as casinos — presumably a strategy aimed at limiting competition to the company’s operating gambling halls.
