TAJ MAHAL Filed Deed Restriction To Prohibit Gaming If Sold

Could the shuttered Taj Mahal Casino become another ‘deed-restricted’ dead zone on the Atlantic City Boardwalk?

According to Nick Huba from The Press of Atlantic City, paper work was filed on DEC 19, 2016 with the Atlantic County Clerk’s office. Trump Taj Mahal Associates LLC has placed a deed restriction not allowing gaming if the TAJ property is sold.

TAJ management, including Carl Icahn and Tony Rodio, claim that the summer long strike by Local 54 prevented a “path to profitability” and that  was forced to close.

Union-friendly, but not job-friendly.

Union president Bob McDevitt got support from local lawmakers. Sen. Sweeney and Whelan, Assemblymen Brown & Mazzeo all sided with the Local 54  union chief and voted to penalize TAJ with a five-year gaming license suspension for shutting down the casino.

Owner Icahn says the bill is unconstitutional and will discourage investment in Atlantic City. Thousands of jobs are at stake in this stand-off.

Christie has yet to sign the bill into law.

Taj Mahal, Atlantic Club, Trump Plaza, and REVEL / TEN are all currently sitting idle on the Atlantic City Boardwalk. That’s 50% of the Boardwalk’s casino inventory.
