Deed Restrictions on Atlantic City Casinos Targeted for Reduction or Full Ban

A growing cadre of leaders want to eliminate the dual deed restrictions on the Showboat property in Atlantic City. This should grease the skids for Stockton University to unload the Boardwalk site.

If OK’ed by the Legislature and Gov. Christie, it would then need to wait til late November for the Assembly to bless the proposed law.

Republican Assemblyman Chris Brown has been pushing for this for about a year. He wants deed restrictions on any AC casino to be forbidden.

A new bill being pushed by Democratic leaders would only void deed restrictions on publicly owned or leased land in the Atlantic City Tourism District. In the near term, it would apply only to Showboat.
