Is the 5th, final, and very expensive Atlantic City Beach Concert for 2016 a good use of $330,000? Council President Marty Small thinks so.
The free concert will feature two old school hip-hop / R& B acts from the 90’s: Bell Biv Devoe and En Vogue. The concert is Thursday, September 22, starting at 5p.
The show came to be after non-stop pressure on the CRDA from Mr. Small. The council president was not happy with LIVE NATION’s choice of only using POP, COUNTRY & ROCK acts for the past 3 years.
Note: LIVE NATION was contractually obligated to book bands that could attract 30,000 attendees, in order to make this investment pay-off for the city. POP, COUNTRY & ROCK are the musical formats with a solid track record of big ticket sales. Atlantic City gets a cut of each ticket sale. According to the Press of Atlantic City, concert goers didn’t seem to spend much money on the Boardwalk or local businesses. The ‘no re-entry’ policy likely made matters worse.
Opponents of this off-season show were not happy with Council President Small, also known as “Party Marty”.
Party Marty chose to use $330,000 for a beach concert, rather than helping us fix Brown’s Park, hire more cops, or re-train City employees soon to be let go, says a 32 year Atlantic City resident.
Even though the concert is free, you still need to download a pair at ticketmaster.com. Limit of four free tickets per person.
For those who want to help Atlantic City pay down debt for this event, there’ll be a limited number of VIP tickets as well.
