Atlantic City Boardwalk Committee. Meeting Notes. Wednesday, May 11, 2016

Please Note: The next meeting will be held Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 9:30 A.M. at Boardwalk Hall in Room 150.

A C Boardwalk Chairman, Tom Lamaine, opened the meeting.  Those in attendance introduced themselves.

Special Improvement District – Rick Santoro

  • Spring Deep Cleaning Continues – Power washing, dunes, weeds, curb lines, etc., etc., etc.
  • New trash cans rotating – old ones will be pulled off to paint and scrape
  • Building new benches and planters to replace damaged ones on the boardwalk
  • Temporary budget being used – 3 months at a time based on 2015 figures of 5.3 million. $20,000 under budget.
  • SID has been taking care of offensive, privately owned properties throughout AC.  If owners are available to contact they will be billed for services.  This brought up numerous other questions/discussions about foreclosed properties and the Abandoned Property Act that Elizabeth Terenik addressed.

Planning and Development City of AC – Director Elizabeth Terenik

  • Working continues in inlet. Army Corp hopes to be completed January 2017.  Numerous issues around the Rhode Island area. Needs to be secure and the most vulnerable. Grant was awarded.  Absecon Island Inlet Sea Wall washed away during the winter and has to be reinstalled.
  • New web page www.ACDevelopment.org
  • Steel Pier gondola/ferris wheel work will be starting soon
  • Boraie supposed to break ground in July
  • June 23 City Auction of properties
  • Bart Blatstein still plans to buy Garden Pier and turn it into a Beach and Pool Club

Boardwalk Hall – Erin Bilton

  • Lauryn Hill and Tedeschi Truck Band this weekend
  • Luke Bryan and Pre Party – June 18
  • Circus de Soleil June 19– July 3

CRDA – Karen Martin

  • At its April 19 meeting, the CRDA Board agreed to transfer ownership of projection and lighting equipment to the Atlantic County Improvement Authority (ACIA), which had agreed to take over the CRDA’s 3D Light Show at Historic Boardwalk Hall. The shows will continue this season. Schedule to be provided by the ACIA.
  • The Board also approved a supplemental fund in the amount $50,000 for the 2016 Atlantic City Airshow “ Thunder Over the Boardwalk”, which will be held on Wednesday, August 17.
  • The CRDA is working closely with the Miss America Organization and Dick Clark Productions to scout locations for opening segments and postcard publicity opportunities in Atlantic City.
  • Still awaiting confirmed dates and artist for the summer beach concerts. CRDA team in contract negotiations with Live Nation for six summer dates.

ACPD – Captain Chris Kammerman 

  • State takeover is big news, but ACPD assured State Attorney General that they’ll be on the job 24/7
  • ACPD is being considered as a Model Police Department for the state of New Jersey by County – Jim Maclean
  • Partnership with CRDA and SID – Tourism District Patrol  Class II officers will be assigned to the Boardwalk and Marina District.  It is a work in progress, but they will target hot spots.  There will be 1 lieutenant, Rudy Lushina and 4 sergeants along with 30 officers and 2 shifts.  20 officers and 1 shift will start May 29th.  New bright yellow and green uniforms will be easy to identify. Emphasis will be placed on quality of life, local ordinances, enforcement  of city codes and customer service which will include handing out maps, talking about events and a wealth of information.
  • Begging license / Pan Handling was rescinded by City Council.
  • Bicycle enforcement is encouraged, but very difficult.  *** Elizabeth Terenik added that bike routes throughout the city are under consideration.  Locations TBD.

ACPD – Sergeant Kevin Fair

  •  New LED lighting poles and video cameras are being installed on the boardwalk which should help with vandalism and break ins, etc., on the Boardwalk. Hopefully, they should be installed and operating by July 1.

Atlantic City Trams and Metered Parking – Tim Boland

  • There are 1,177 meters spaces through the city.  400 spaces can be added which will have to be approved by City Council.
  • All meters will be replaced by B & B Parking .  They will be using  http://mackaymeters.com systems that can be operated by cell phones via an app costing   $2.00 an hour.  B&B will be responsible for physical collection of money, etc.  9 enforcement officers will be utilized. 55% of 2 million  goes to city.  $500, 000 increase. July 1st installation planned as long as there is no hold up in City Council.
  • Trams cost $2.18 per ride and $5.45 for an all day pass due to the luxury tax being added to cost. There are 9 vehicles, but only 5 can run at a time.

  • Update on the demolition of the properties around the lighthouse ? Yes, the city won a court case and 300 Atlantic Avenue properties will be torn down within 30 days.

  • Is the Sky the Limit ? Wednesday, May 25 at 5:30 PM Dante Hall (14N Mississippi Ave.) Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation presents grand vision for revel and Atlantic City’s South Inlet.
