Gardners Basin Shutters Crafters Village. Re-Development Plans Forthcoming.

Gardner’s Basin is no longer home to Crafters Village, a quaint collection of shops and vendors. For years, 10 sheds lined the walking pavilion between The Aquarium and Back Bay Alehouse and Gilchrist Restaurant.

The City of Atlantic City is no longer allowed to continue the popular village due to environmental regulations being enforced by The State of NJ & DEP.

Officials from the Department of Environmental Protection say Crafters Village doesn’t comply with requirements attached to state and federal grants the city received decades ago.

Because AC took $500,000 from a Green Acres program, they needed to comply with stricter conservation, recreation and open space rules. Those rules were ‘overlooked’ for years. With the takeover of AC, The State of NJ changed all that.

The City Council plans to vote on a resolution approving a developer’s plan to renovate and expand the Gardner’s Basin area of Atlantic City.
