Attorney & Radio Station Owner Wants Bader Field Auction Stopped

Bader Field
Miller Looking to Stop Auction

Bader Field in Atlantic City is scheduled to be auctioned off on Thursday, July 14. But that’s only if an organization known as BADER FIELD SPORTS is unsuccessful at stopping this municipal money-raising event.

Local attorney George Miller, is principal of Bader Field Sports, WOND 1400 News Radio and Longport Media.

Mr. Miller claims his company has a lease to run a sports complex on the old airport property. He filed a lawsuit and sued the City of Atlantic City on Monday. Miller wants to stop the auction.

Mr. Miller and Bader Field Sports thought they signed a valid lease with the city in January 2016. The NJ State Division of Local Government Services says no, they didn’t. The lease isn’t valid, according to the State.

Bader Field Sports alleges that it was Atlantic City’s obligation to get approval from the State. Looks like that didn’t happen, as Mayor Don Guardian and Council quickly tried to push thru the lease without a proper OK from State officials in charge of AC’s financial oversight.

George Miller is currently with Miller, Gallagher & Grimley in Atlantic City, a law firm he founded in 1992.

In 1985, Miller started Shore Cable. He sold it a few years later for $11 million. In 2007, Harrah’s Entertainment Inc., backed Miller and his partners and helped them open Harrah’s Chester Casino and Racetrack.

FACT: Bader Field in Atlantic City is part of the state-run Tourism District controlled by the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority.

The old Bader Airfield is a prime waterfront location with 140 acres ripe for redevelopment. It was closed in September 2006.

Worried about recent corruption and political instability in Atlantic City, the state Senate yesterday unanimously approved a bill that would give Trenton some control over the potential $1 billion sale of the resort’s former airport. The 148-acre site, known as Bader Field, is considered among the most valuable properties on the East Coast because of its development potential for three or more casinos near the Atlantic Ocean. Until a few weeks ago, the city and state were talking about working together on the sale.

Bader Field, billed as one of the most valuable tracts of open land along the East Coast, attracts as much controversy as it does interested developers. The latest ruckus is over an offer by Penn National Gaming Inc. this week to pay $800 million for the coveted land, located about a half mile from the Boardwalk, to build at least three casinos. The executive director of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority – the agency in charge of the sale of Bader Field – is contending that Penn National is trying “to steal the land” from the city.

Some BADER proposals of the past…

  • 750-room luxury hotel, waterfront townhouses
  • Indoor-outdoor water park, theme park & Amusements, Hot air balloon festivals.
  • A marina and shopping attractions
  • Sports complex
  • Return to an airport
  • Elevated monorail system connecting Boardwalk, train station, AC International Airport
  • New exit to link Bader with Atlantic City Expressway.
