Grossman Congressional Chances Improve After Saving Atlantic County Millions?

LISTEN TO PODCAST > Atlantic County taxpayers breathed a small sigh of relief recently. News broke that a Judge compelled the State and County to sit down and craft a deal to resolve that pesky PILOT percentage squabble.

Background: Atlantic County taxpayers were about to get royally hosed for $5 million.

Gov. Christie reneged on his promised 13.5% PILOT deal for Atlantic County.

County Exec Denny Levinson was also not happy about taking a $5 million dollar haircut. Denny could have been forced to raise taxes on every Atlantic County property owner.

Good thing those fine, fiscal folks from Liberty and Prosperity stepped up. They already had a lawsuit in the pipeline, challenging the brutal PILOT law. The attorney for Liberty & Prosperity is Seth Grossman, who’s also a leading candidate for Frank Lobiondo’s Congressional seat this November. According to Grossman, if you think a law is unconstitutional, you have 45 days to file a suit after that legislation goes into effect. Thus, L & P had ‘standing’ to bring a lawsuit, challenging the PILOT.

Atlantic County got involved a year later. Since the county had no legal standing on their own at this point, it was fortuitous that Levinson joined forces with Grossman to face the State of NJ as a team.

FACT: County taxpayers saved almost $5 million thru efforts of Seth Grossman, representing Liberty & Prosperity organization.

More Notes from interviews:

County got double crossed by Christie.

Levinson: He trusts that the State will take care of Atlantic City. Murphy will be honorable.

AC itself, never pushed for extracting full taxes.

Casinos pretty much said: ‘this is how much we feel like paying in taxes’.

Crazy formula endorsed by the Casinos. A plan that lobbyists for the casinos placed on Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo’s desk for consideration.

Those lobbyists came from Optimus Partners. Phil Norcross & Jeff Micheals.(friend of former Gov Christie)
