Grossman Warns Atlantic City About Hansen Sober Living Homes

Hansen House Sober Living

On Tuesday July 27, there’s going to be another hearing in front of the Atlantic City Zoning Board.

Hansen House wants to set up another drug rehab group home, says Liberty and Prosperity’s Seth Grossman.

Seth Grossman

The sober living home would be in a stable, but fragile residential neighborhood called Chelsea in Atlantic City. Right on Tallahassee Ave. Near where Grossman lives, by the Plaza and Berkeley.

Grossman: They’re going to set up a group home. It sounds like a good charity. Helping people who are troubled. But here’s a couple things wrong with this.

Grossman: As a lawyer within the criminal justice system, I know of many examples where somebody is doing a dangerous crime. Getting sent to prison. But then a creative lawyer says, if he has a drug problem, let him go to a drug rehab group home instead of jail.

Grossman: Suppose you’re living in a neighborhood, putting your life savings into it. You want to live in a decent neighborhood. You have your kids out there. Do you really want to be next to people who you have no idea who they are?

To get out of prison, they could go into this group. Living right next to you. Is Atlantic City with all the temptation… the best place to have these group homes?

The charity is run by the Hanson family, owners of the Margate Bridge.

They’re paying a lawyer to get the permits and variances, using Atty Keith Davis, the politically connected law firm getting $139,000 according to a recent tax return.

  1. I agree with Seth Grossman ….. . While trying to help one group of people the
Hansen’s are hurting another group of people….!!!! … “Single FAMILY homeowners.”
Furthermore … The Hansen’s may be forcng existing families with small or teen-age
children to SELL their homes because of the element of people living into the Hansen’s
    SOBER HOMES …!!!
I feel a formula should be developed that will reimburses sellers fpr loss of
value, within 1,000 feet of sold property.

  2. Hansens don;t give a damn about the the drug addicts getting better, They only care about the big $ they are makeing. The hell with everyone else.

  3. If any of you people took the time to get to know the Hansen’a you would all eat your words! Jen Hansen is 1 of the nicest people and genuinely cares about everyone she helps! And there’s much more that if you took the time to know them and not just make them out to be villains, you all just have no idea!!

  4. Why not then purchase land and homes in Mays landing where they could garden and have chickens and have less temptation? Because at the end of the road the Hansen’s will own all that land purchased under a tax free company and paid for the the government and the labor of others!

  5. I agree with Seth Grossman.

Since Hansen’s Sober House’s are a business, why not TAX – REGULATE – INSPECT like every other business, similar to restaurants.

This is not about Hansen being nice or bad people, it’s about destroying middle working class neighborhoods to enrich ones self.

We all work to PRODUCE. But to Hurt one thing in order to produce another thing is usually not allowed.

This is what leads to Government Regulations. I am definitely against what the Hansen’s are doing. Actually … this is what brought Atlantic City down.

Too many rental properties. Too many Government Programs.

Data presented in this article states that Atlantic City currently has five sober living residences. In a City of 40,000 full time residents five sober living residences with perhaps no more than 150 beds in total seems woefully insufficeint to house our family and neighbors that are actively seeking to address their substance abuse issues. Stoking fear that sober living residences will lead to falling real estate prices, and that residents of these homes are a clear & present danger to their neighbors is unfounded. Hopefully tomorrow’s Zoning Board meeting on the new Hanson House application will focus on facts and not unsubstantiated claims concerning sober living residences.

  8. NO.NO.NO.WE DO NEED THIS.THE SWEET PRESENTATION IS A BIG LIE.WE ALREADY HAVE A MASSIVE DRUG CORRIDOR ALONG FLORIDA AVENUE TO CALIFORNIA AVENUE UP AND DOWN PACIFIC AVENUE.THE ABEL MANOR HOTEL IS ONE STOP SHOPPING FOR HEROIN COCAINE AND PROSTITUTION AND A MAYOR WHO COULD NOT GIVE A DAMN.IF THE MAYOR OKAYS ALL THIS ILLEGAL ACTIVITY WHY HAVE A DRUG REHAB SO CLOSE BY FOR PEOPLE TO RELAPSE TO TEMTATION.HANSEN IS SELLING SNAKE OIL AND WE ALREADY HAVE A MAYOR WHO COULD CARE LESS

  9. YES.YES.YES.WHY NOT PURCHASE PROPERTY BY THEIR HOME AND PROPERTY AND SET UP SHOP IF SO TRULY CARING AND COMPASSIONATE.WHY HERE IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD.WE HAVE ENOUGH DRUG ACTIVITY AND THIS PLACE WILL CAUSE MANY A RELAPSE

  10. I question the methodology of Hansen’s weak statement of helping people.
Why destroy / de-value whole neighborhoods with recovering addicts.
It would be much better for Hansen’s to build Tourist Attractions – make jobs
    – teach working skills – employees would pay taxes like the rest of us. Oh..!!!
& yes the Hansen;s would pay taxes from their business profits. Rather than
as presently …. buy property – profit by renting to people on government PROGRAMS …!!
…. OH ..!!! …… and Hansens’s pay NO TAX …. on their profits.
Restore the good name of OLE HANSEN ..!!!!
    DO THE RIGHT THING ….!!!!..

  11. I’d love to see the day this scourge passes through Ventnor and knocks on the day of margate that’s when heads will roll
