Groundbreaking ceremonies took place today for a new Head Start Program at 1433 Bacharach Boulevard in Atlantic City. The three-story facility will include 20 classrooms, two Head Start playgrounds, one Early Head Start playground, and a multi-purpose room.

Construction on the $21 million project, funded by Superstorm Sandy Relief Funds. The project is slated to be completed by December 2016 with approximately 300 children occupying the center in early 2017.

Plans for the new Gateway Head Start Early Education Center in Atlantic City were born in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. The storm damaged four of the city’s Head Start centers, displacing 197 children and the number of Head Start centers was reduced from five to two.

The new center will be a haven for Atlantic City’s child education, family resources, and community activities. For additional information on Head Start or the new center, call 856.451.6330.
