Press of Atlantic City Now Managed by Davenport Iowa Media Company

The Press of Atlantic City and it’s parent company, BH MEDIA, will undergo even more, radical management changes.

The struggling newspaper will now be managed by Lee Enterprises of Davenport, Iowa.

Lee will manage BH Media (Berkshire Hathaway’s) newspaper and digital operations. Locally that includes Press of AC and AC Weekly. Both publications have fallen sharply over the past 5 years.

Lee will implement revenue initiatives and business transformation tactics.

BH Media owns 30 daily newspapers and 47 weeklies, including The Press of Atlantic City and the Currents and Gazettes of Atlantic and Cape May counties.

“[Lee] has a successful track record of growing digital advertising revenue” is what Press of Atlantic City Publisher Mark Blum is excited about.

Current management of AC Weekly and Press of AC have yet to stop the bleeding. Innovation in the newspaper industry is essential to successful future. Each year it gets worse.

Lee will take dramatic measures to generate more cash flow, speed debt reduction, introduce new digital and print strategies at BH Media properties.

Surprisingly, managers of the entertainment based AC Weekly have yet to stop the bleeding in a town full of entertainment.

Kevin D. Mowbray, Lee president and CEO, said the agreement is five year deal. Lee will have broad latitude to manage.

Look for additional shake-up and downsizing inside Press of AC. Especially from middle management with rich compensation packages.

The broadcast news partner of Press of AC is also undergoing an extreme make-over, as they fight for their life. WOND radio 1400am is still busy searching for a general manager to replace the ousted Dave Coskey.
