St Patrick Parade Atlantic City
Celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Atlantic City

It was another festive Saint Patrick’s Day parade on the world famous Atlantic City Boardwalk. Saturday afternoon, March 12, attracted big crowds and big smiles. Everybody was Irish for a day.

Started back in 1986, the first parade was organized by Al McMahon. He was owner of the Circle Tavern in Brigantine. Joe Shields; a bartender who worked at the Surfside in Margate, is also an original founder.

Inspired by the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Philadelphia, the first parade route was from New Jersey to Albany Avenues on the Boardwalk. It had approximately 1,000 participants marching. Attendance that day was estimated at 35,000 people.
