Stockton Proves Bipartisan Views Welcome on Campus with Judge Gorsuch Visit?

Did Stockton prove that they embraces open debate on campus? The University may have done just that by inviting Supreme Court Justice Gorsuch to speak at their Galloway campus.

Judge Gorsuch, nominated by President Trump, was invited to appear at Stockton at the request of Democrat Bill Hughes, a Linwood attorney. Hughes went to school with long-time friend, Gorsuch.

The appearance at Stockton University by Gorsuch is notable. Generally, universities have seen an increase of student protests and/or objections to differing political and social views. The Internet and mainstream media amplified stories of safe spaces, trigger warnings, and free speech on campus. That’s why this Gorsuch / Hughes / Stockton event could start a refreshing return to civility on campus. Maybe. That’s a big maybe. But we’re hopeful.

The need to understand both sides of an argument. A most critical skill that students, and all adults, need.

Justice Neil Gorsuch at Stockton: Possible to disagree without being disagreeable

Gorsuch: civility is listening & engaging with merits of ideas rather than trying to silence, dismiss or ridicule.

Harvey Kesselman, President, Stockton University: We were extremely impressed with his commitment to civil discourse and civil dialogue. He was gracious with his time, enjoyed immensely lunch with students, and connected with the audience in the Performing Arts Center. He shared his firm belief that public higher education changes the lives of citizens, and that we should always be open to hearing what others have to say even if we do not agree with their ideas. We are so fortunate to have been able to host him at Stockton.

Maybe Ben Shapiro will be the next speaker at Stockton? Shapiro is good example of a conservative who didn’t vote for President Trump. (makes for good discussion)

To Stockton University President, Dr. Harvey Kesselman: could Ben Shapiro be another appropriate, compelling guest speaker for our local campuses?

LibertyandProsperity: Some demand safe spaces, special funding and all sorts of special privileges for certain politically correct groups of “victims” who they falsely claim are unfairly treated by a hateful, intolerant, and unjust America. Some falsely blame “capitalism” and “racism” for poverty and “income inequality” in America. They suggest that those who work hard to live a comfortable, middle-class life should feel guilty about their “white privilege”.
