Dave Showell: The only option presented by the ASMFC is 3 flounder @ 19″, at the meeting the NJMFC is stuck with accepting this “Punishment” and I don’t know what we did to deserve it. It definitely wasn’t to catch too many flounder since the number of anglers on the water has dropped every year since the limit went to 17″ However that is what their science says.
The State can go “Out of Compliance” which will bring us a shit load of problems and could give us a limit of 2 fish @ 20″ for just a couple weeks. Overall the entire situation has gotten extremely quiet, like maybe it will go away, but it won’t.
Tom Dascher: The sad truth is guys like me from Pa, it’s just not worth the trip cost to haul my boat down, buy bait, fuel, tolls maybe a few rigs and ramp fees for two flounder or 1 weakfish. I may make a trip to do some crabbing but I mite as well just fish the Delaware river for cats if I want a great fight and its loaded with them. Its cheaper to just buy a couple pounds of flounder.
Carmen Fanelli: I was at the last meeting at Galloway. I wont be at this one but hopefully there is a similar uproar. This bureaucratic bullshit is killing fishing. As long as people can drag nets and legally discard thousands of dead fish the recs will keep getting screwed.
Bill Haberman: And you know what else sucks? The fact that Delaware and Maryland is 4 @ 17 YEAR ROUND. Why do we have to suffer, and even NY is kind of tough with 5 @ 18in, NY is still a little better then us though.
