Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City is closing. So says owner Carl Icahn and GM Tony Rodio. They will shut down the Taj Mahal sometime after Labor Day weekend. An exact shutdown date has not yet been set.
Management said it can no longer operate a money-losing property in the midst of a strike, which has been going on for over a month.
Could this be a negotiating tactic? Will the union; LOCAL 54, lead by Bob McDevitt…. blink?
Icahn has deep pockets and can outlast almost anyone….in a financial game of chicken.
The union wants health insurance and pension benefits restored. A bankruptcy court judge let the casino eliminate those benefits in 2014.
Recently, strikers petitioned Trenton. They asked for un-employment benefits while they picketed the once great Casino Hotel.
