Ready for a Performance

The Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall Pipe Organ is the world’s largest musical instrument. Organ scholar, builder and showman Steven Ball does the noontime Boardwalk Hall concerts on that unique behemoth.

It was completed in 1932, but was severely damaged in the hurricane in 1944. The sound was not quite the same after that flood. The pipe organ was played every so often after that, but was virtually forgotten by the 1980’s.

The Boardwalk Hall Pipe Organ cost $358,000 to build in 1929. It was built by the Midmer-Losh Organ Co. of Merrick, N.Y. It took four years and 65 people to complete.

The Historic Organ Restoration Committee (H.O.R.C.) are restoring the two magnificent Pipe Organs of Historic Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The goal is to return these national treasures to their original splendor.

This Atlantic City treasure was brought back to life by Ball, Nathan Bryson, Scott Banks, a restoration committee and many volunteers. $16 million is needed to fully restore the Pipe organ by 2023. About $2 million has been raised so far.

Ball’s noontime concerts and guided tours aim to educate the public and attract support for the project. Become a “Friend of the Pipe Organs of Boardwalk Hall”.
