Tax Break to Attract More A-List Performances in Atlantic City?

A proposed bill looks to provide tax credits to ‘A-list’ artists who perform regularly in Atlantic City. The artist would receive this credit if they perform at least four times at Atlantic City in a year. Senator Tom Kean, Jr. is pushing for this economy boosting bill.

After a total of 80,000 fans packed the Atlantic City beaches to see Maroon 5 & Rascal Flatts last week, tongues started wagging about the superb economic upside of goosing the beach concert opportunity. Talk of a semi-permanent beach stage was also floated. FACTOID: The Maroon 5 show brought $24 million into AC’s economy.

Qualifying entertainers who perform at least four times in Atlantic City would get a state tax credit on income they earn that same calendar year.

Kean often reminds us that people flock to Las Vegas to see the resident Britney Spears’ show, which generates millions of dollars, revitalizing business, adding jobs and increasing overall state tourism and revenues. In September 2013, Britney Spears spent $100,000 to elaborately announce her career comeback — a two-year residency at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

Ideas like this, no matter how experimental, show just how much our Jersey Shore location needs to build upon it’s rep as a premier entertainment destination….and not just a casino town.
