Dave Coskey, President of WOND Radio & Longport Media, to Step Down

Dave Coskey Longport Media
Best of Luck to Dave Coskey

Dave Coskey, President and GM of Longport Media, will be exiting that position. For the past 7 years, Coskey managed local radio stations that include Classic Rock WMGM, News / Talk WOND and KOOL 98.3 Oldies.

Coskey ran the cluster of stations for owners George Miller & Drew Katz. Coskey’s resume is impressive, which also includes being a past president of the Philadelphia 76ers and VP of Marketing for Borgata.

The following is Mr. Coskey’s goodbye letter to the Longport Media staff:

It was Easter Sunday in 2011 when my cell phone rang with a call from Lewis Katz. He asked if I could come up to Longport to discuss an idea with him. Two hours later I was sitting in his backyard hearing about a plan that he had for a communications company that among other parts, would include several South Jersey radio stations that I was already pretty familiar with.

Lewis’ plans were impressive to say the least. It was scary but two weeks later, on May 15, I walked into 1601 New Road for the first time.

Now, seven years later, and after a great deal of thought and discussion with my family, I’ve decided that it’s time for me to move on to the next phase of my life. Initially that means spending more time working with the publishing and marketing company that my wife has been operating alone on our behalf.

Our business has grown more than we could ever have imagined when we purchased the company almost 15 years ago and it seems like it’s time for me to help more than I currently do. There’s also the opportunity to spend more time with my three grandchildren. That’s something that’s proved almost impossible over the past three summers.

I wish there was a better way to make this announcement but how do you reach out to 60+ people who all work very different days/times?

I leave with very mixed emotions. There’s still so much to accomplish here, but we can all be very proud that we’ve managed to guide four of our radio stations to be rated among the best in South Jersey at least once during this run, along with being honored by the New Jersey Broadcasters Association with the Best News in the State of New Jersey.

None of that could have been accomplished without the hard work of so many people here at Longport Media and for that I’m very appreciative.

I also appreciate the financial commitments that the Katz and Miller families made to achieving Lewis’ goal: that of having our stations serve the residents of South Jersey while providing opportunities to so many of our neighbors to earn a living. Although not always openly acknowledged, I can tell you that their commitment has been great and unflinching.

I’ve committed to stay on board as long as it takes to make a smooth transition to Paul [Kelly], who will fill my role, at least for now, on an interim basis.

New faces bring news ideas. The excitement of new challenges is something that we both have to look forward to. And you can be sure that I will continue to have my radio tuned to the stations of Longport Media.

My sincere thanks to you for your efforts and I know that even greater things lie ahead in the future.

ACprimetime wishes Dave Coskey all the best.
