Hard Rock CEO: Atlantic City Worse Than Before. Broken Promises from CRDA.

Jim Allen, is CEO of Hard Rock International. He spoke with Casino Connection Publisher Roger Gros. Atlantic City was one of the topics discussed.

“Candidly, we’re disappointed with Atlantic City,” says Jim Allen.  “There’s no other way to say it. … It’s a shame that they did not rise to the occasion of a company coming in, putting $500 million into that city.”

“Pacific Avenue has identical problems that it’s had the last 20 years,” Allen said, “and, frankly, it’s worse now than it was 10 years ago.”

We can’t have another mayor arrested, can’t have all the corruption,” Allen said.

There were all kinds of promises from Trenton and CRDA and the city (that) things were gonna change.

And, candidly, I think Atlantic City is in worse shape today than it was two years ago. And that’s a shame.”

  1. The entire CRDA Board members must be replaced with business men…not Politicians who never took a risk, operated a business, applied for a business investment loan, met payroll, hired productive employees or ordered merchandise in their lifetimes!

Look at what Trump did. He’s a shining example of a great businessman. Politics are ruining the country as well as Atlantic City. People get into government as paupers and leave with virtually
    millions of dollars.

    1. FEEL SORRY FOR ATLANTIC CITY. Who wants a MAYOR that’s only known for THROWING PARTIES.

      1. NO “real” American would castigate the real President we finally have after 8 years of zero!

The problem that is endemic and Atlantic City, extends to and emanates from, Trenton.

“Uncle Phil has been a miserable failure as Governor. Every single one of his agencies are falling down on the job! A typical and competent liberal unfit to lead!

No American can truthfully say that they are not better off now, than they were before Trump was elected President!

Atlantic City should be thriving, as our economy continues to thrive. The level of corruption preventing this, is staggering!

This doesn’t only exist in Atlantic County, but in Bergen County as well, where DEMOCRAT politicians behind the scenes, are filling their own pockets and coffers, rather than helping the people who put them into office!

There must be accountability, and the only way to hold failed politicians accountable, is to vote them out of office!

For the time being, apply public pressure on them while they’re in office, until they do the job that they were elected to do!!

I love Atlantic City, but hard Rock’s CEO is exactly right. Follow the money, and you will find the corruption!!

        1. Typical INCOMPETENT Liberal. Liberalism is a disease and should be eradicated at all levels of Government!

  2. Jim Allen is an honorable self-made man. What he says about AC is the God honest truth. I go into the city every day and it’s a real side show.

I’ve see hookers get beaten by pimps during the day, junkies doing the heroin walk on Pacific and Atlantic Ave.

Had punks on bikes circle my car at a red light. I’ve had lunatics try to enter my car while I’m stopping at the light.

Seen homeless sleeping right on the side walk! I’ve seen a crazy or drugged guy hold up traffic doing ballet in the middle of the street on Pacific.

This is beyond nuts and frankly I’m really surprised ANY people would want to vacation in AC.

    1. AC is not alone in this, all the other local cities dump their homeless in AC and expect someone else to do the work for them.

The AC city workers are no prize for sure, but a city of 20k people that rises to a hundred thousand on the weekends… is always going to have it’s ‘side show’.

      1. Instead of allocating funds towards “Sanctuary City illegals” who should be deported, those funds should be diverted towards rehabilitating vacant buildings in AC, taking the homeless off the streets, and if their mental illness prevents them from cooperating, put them behind protective walls of mental hospitals, and out of the general population.

To a great extant Nationwide, homelessness and mental health go hand-in-hand. We cannot, as a nation, continue to ignore this fact, and ignore people who aren’t going to go away until they are taken away.

    2. casinos are not paying their fair share in taxes last quarter. 3 Billion dollars in profit. How much went to the city of Atlantic City?

    3. I worked in AC for 25 years and saw all of what you speak of. So glad I retired and got out of that place.

    4. So many crazy, drugged up people in Atlantic City. They have the homeless shelter there. These people sleep there and then wake up n go to Boardwalk or Pacific Ave. They start bumming Money. It needs to go.

  3. The life blood is A.C. tourism and amusements for gaming and families. Atlantic City will have no growth as long as small businesses have no chance against corporate agenda.

  4. I have a successful female-owned business in Atlantic City. There are so many things continually damaging Atlantic City, its residents, and business owners, especially the high property taxes.

The Atlantic City Government seems to discourage new business growth, and continually torture new business owners that invest in Atlantic City by delaying their approvals and licenses, and coming up with ridiculous old-time outdated rules and regulations and huge fines that they don’t tell them before they invested and opened their businesses.

The local conditions in Atlantic City has damaged my business because local residents either come less often, or move out of the area compounded by the loss of jobs and increased taxes.

  5. The State is too blame for not totally rebuilding Atlantic city instead of investing taxes from the casinos in other cities.
After 30 years it’s just crazy.
Let’s not forget the debit Chris Christie but on the city to build the road to the Revel.
That casino didnt last long and went bankrupt.

  6. Let me get this right you bought the taj for 4 cents hello 4 cents on the dollar. You sink half a billion into the place and turn things around financially from day one. And you are whining because atlantic city is still atlantic city after 18 months in business. What did you expect??

    1. The city has failed to reinvest properly in 40 years of operation. The city could have been a class destination but the politicians are corrupt to the core. Gangsters disguised as servants of the community. What a joke.

Steve Wynn saw the corruption and mis-management and ran away from AC.

The city never developed and the casinos seen the downfall and salvaged what they could in the form of bankruptcies and restructuring.

I dont blame the Casinos or their owners. The city and state collected all the revenue from the casinos and never put it back into the city for many years. The city has been a shithole for years scaring away tourist with god awful reviews and bad publicity.

  7. Atlantic City will not be nothing without the casino. there’s nothing to do here. just work in a casino and gamble. nothing for kids. no Attractions. Atlantic City is infected with drug addicts from one end to the other.

  8. Politicians and non politicians still haven’t got it right in Atlantic City and never will. It will always be a hell hole.

  9. Have an airport where people can fly directly to Atlantic City. Who wants to fly to Philly then spend another hour driving to AC ?

Make Atlantic City seaport for cruise ships. Have Trenton and the crda stop spending crda money in other areas. The money raised in Atlantic City needs to be reinvested in Atlantic City. In the back bays, it should be marinas, condos and waterfront restaurants. Not public housing.

    1. Excellent post. There should be at the very least a Statewide, if not Nationwide mandate, that everybody benefiting from Public assistance, Public housing, etc. be mandated to put in a 40-hour work week at minimum wage municipal jobs, cleaning up parks and doing other jobs, cities currently pay Public Works employees to do.

The wages earned can supplement and thereby reduce public assistance, with that money put back into the municipalities.

  10. Everyone always has something negative about Atlantic City. I was born here and grew up here. 3 billion dollars in profit, Hello! People are still coming regardless of all the stigma. People still have jobs. Because the towns they live in have none.

  11. Um… iroically…
Hard Rock took over Trump Taj Mahal, which was the last Trump property left in Atpamtic Coty, after that “businessman” bled the city DRY and helped contribute to the difficult conditions of Atlamtic City. He hurt the city, not help it. And AC gave him several opportunities to steer his course back on track.. but he left the town worse than when he came onboard.

Unfortunately, those interested in investing in AC still have to repair some of the damage he did, to the businesses, the hotel & casino industry, and to the people of Atlantic City. Also unfortunately, the shady dealings of NJ state & city politicians have kept it from becoming a full-on thriving destination.

    1. You can’t have locals running the show who are not experienced in the world theater also Trump made his bones here on the backs of many by refusing to pay for services rendered… Finally Atlantic City has never had a master plan for uniform development…. So I the end what you have is what is there now…. A cash grab by Icahn, Blatstien and the like… and I’m sure Carl doesn’t appreciate being grouped with Bart but the same thing goes large scale or small scale and no small pun intended
