The Atlantic City Boardwalk Committee met for their monthly get-together on JUNE 10, inside the bowels of historic Boardwalk Hall. Tom Lamaine handled hosting chores for the still recovering Pinky Kravitz.

Lamaine; a Philly Radio & TV legend, shared that Pinky; 89, has been transferred from the hospital….to rehabilitation.

That’s great news for Kravitz as the 59 year Radio legend is still recovering from heart surgery.

Highlights from meeting:

  • $35 million in funding is ready to go for the Inlet Boardwalk Re-Build project. BUT…. the exact plan of action lead by the Army Corp of Engineers has yet to be locked down. Now sure how to BEST protect the new Boardwalk. One new twist in this long awaited and mission-critical project is a regulation mandating that a new boardwalk can NOT be built over water, unless a bulkhead can protect the new structure. Lamaine suggested a hybrid boardwalk / bulkhead, similar to Brigantine’s north end promenade.
  • Instead of Boardwalk “trams’, maybe we call the new electric powered people-movers….. ‘Boardwalk Buggies’. Replacing ‘Watch the Tram Car please’…maybe…’Here coooooommmmmessssssssss….. the Boardwalk Buggy’
  • The beach in front of the shuttered REVEL will be open this summer. Seems enough sand has covered the installed jetty rocks, making it safe for sunbathers.
  • Pinky doesn’t want a street (or corner) named after him, even though he could be the MOST deserving of this honor.

  • Starbucks is first business to grab a spot in the new retail structure being built next to Boardwalk Hall.
  • Big votes will take place in the next few days in regards to the funding of key AC initiatives. ( Assembly vote June 11, Senate will vote on June 25 )
  • Two big beach concerts are still being kept secret. One could be free, the other would be paid. One of the shows could offer paid, upfront seating with a free area in the rear. Whispers suggest that a massively large band could be announced soon. The superstar group might have moves like Jagger, and they won’t go home without you.
  • 50% of AC streets are under contract to be paved.
  • 500 new housing units are in some level of build… in Atlantic City.
  • Homicide rate waaaaaaay down in AC. (just 2 since beginning of year)
Mark Berman Boardwalk Atlantic City WOND
Berman Serves Up Some Absecon Island Reality
  • WOND Radio host; Mark Berman, spearheading efforts to grow awareness/benefits of Absecon Island (3 towns & 1 borough)
  • LED screens on boardwalk installed by Nexo-media & Impactivate discussed. What are terms & conditions of that deal?
  • Ripley’s Believe It or Not gearing up with some interesting new promotions
  • Steel Pier OBSERVATION WHEEL still under construction in Italy….and being prepped for shipment to AC.
  • Trump Plaza parking lot is open.
  • Not one….but potentially TWO new beach bars could launch this summer.
  • July 3 is the deadline for the Straub/Stockton/Showboat situation

The next meeting will be Wednesday, July 8, 9:30 A.M. at Boardwalk Hall in Room 150.
