Striper, Flounder & Shedder Crabs. Spring 2016 Fishing Report

33 pound striper absecon bay
Tim Showell – Mullica River.  33.2 lb

Looks like a good start to the 2016 fishing season, here in the Atlantic City area. And that’s why Dave Showell of the Absecon Bay Sportsman Center checks in to AC Primetime Radio…. with his Spring 2016 fishing forecast. LISTEN >

Striped Bass starting to turn on…a week ahead of schedule, says Dave.

What are they biting on? They’re chasing down herring now. The Mullica River & Egg Harbor river are great for spawning runs of striped bass, says Showell.

Atlantic City area fishing. A 33 pound striper was recently caught.

Bunker and live blood worms are best bait for striped bass, also known as stripers.

Around Memorial Day is when Dave gets crazy busy with soft shell crabs, also known as shedder crabs.

Saturday, May 21, 2016 is the first day of flounder season here in New Jersey.

We also talk to Dave about flounder and fluke rules. They’re crazy when comparing New Jersey to Delaware. Five flounder only… with an 18 inch minimum here in NJ…..crazy. Dave says there are “plenty of flounder”….. it’s a big part of the summer tourism economy. We gotta right-size these rules.

The “Save the Summer Flounder Fishery Fund” was started by a group of concerned anglers. It’s made up of recreational fisherman, captains of for-hire fishing boats and members of the fishing tackle industry. Their goal is to improve fisheries science. They want to safeguard and improve fishing access to summer flounder. For those who enjoy it, and those who depend on it.
