Postcards Tell Amazing History of Atlantic City

Postcards were once the preferred method of sharing your visit to Atlantic City with loved ones. ‘I’ll send you a postcard’. Today, a live video or selfie from a smart phone has replaced that quaint tradition.

Postcards are also a great way to learn more about Atlantic City history. That’s why ‘The Postcard Show’ was created.

The Postcard Show was hosted by Atlantic City residents and identical twin brothers Joseph and John Polillo. Broadcast from August 1996 through January 2001. The two brothers cranked out 104 shows.

History of Atlantic City postcards. A postcard is a rectangular piece of thick paper or thin cardboard intended for writing and mailing without an envelope. Postcards were a primary way to send friends and family a snapshot of one’s surroundings while traveling. A souvenir for travelers. People have long collected and traded cards of their home towns and places they’ve visited.

These cards offer historic reference to buildings, streets, and even towns which may no longer exist or that have changed significantly over time.

The Polillo brothers enjoy sharing Atlantic City scenes dating back to 1850. Beach, boardwalk, piers, hotels, trains, planes, lifeguards, rolling chairs, movie houses, etc. All chronicled on these easy to mail, sometimes postage prepaid, cards.
